A lack of responsibility in general is a problem in relationships. Because at those moments, I can say, that person isn’t really in a relationship. Because to be in a relationship means to understand that you are relating, so that your behavior influences your partner, and your partner influences you.

Just like a mother-infant bond. The infant is not just raised by the mother, but the infant is also raising the mother by teaching her about their cues. They have to be in a reciprocal interactive dynamic of mirroring one another in order to get to a place of deeper intimacy.

–  Debra Mandel, Ph.D.
